When a Health Insurance Claim Rejection Became a Mission: The Story of Advisor Manu K S

In India today, rising medical expenses have made health insurance one of the most important financial protections for families. Yet many people still buy policies without fully understanding the terms, conditions, and waiting periods involved. For Manu K S, a management trainer turned health insurance advisor from Kerala, this reality became clear through a personal experience that changed his professional direction.

Manu K S has spent nearly two decades working as a management trainer and strategic consultant. Over the years, he has trained more than 1,42,000 people across different industries including corporate professionals, students, teachers, farmers, and government officials.

During his earlier career, Manu also worked as a Corporate Relations Manager at a reputed B-School, where he closely interacted with students and industry professionals. It was during this period that he purchased a health insurance policy based on the institute’s recommendation, believing that it would protect him from unexpected medical expenses

However, life had an unexpected lesson in store.

Just seven months after purchasing the policy, Manu was admitted to a well-known hospital in Palakkad due to a kidney stone condition. Like many policyholders, he entered the hospital without worrying about the financial burden, assuming that his health insurance policy would cover the medical expenses.

But when the claim was submitted, it was rejected due to the waiting period clause in the policy.

The incident came as a shock.

What impacted Manu even more deeply was a question asked by one of his students later.

The student said, “Sir, I consider you a knowledge hub. If you don’t know about this, how will ordinary people understand it?”

That single question became a turning point in Manu’s life.

He realized that many educated professionals in India do not fully understand how health insurance works. Important aspects such as waiting periods, policy exclusions, claim procedures, disclosure requirements, and insurance ombudsman processes are often overlooked while purchasing a policy.

Seeing this massive awareness gap, Manu decided to take action.

Being a trainer by profession, his natural approach was to learn deeply and then educate others. He started studying the health insurance ecosystem in detail — evaluating policy structures, comparing insurance companies, understanding claim settlement processes, and learning about regulatory frameworks governing the industry.

His goal was simple: help people understand health insurance before they actually need it.

When Manu later founded Dream On Strategic Consulting, health insurance advisory became one of the major focus areas of the organization. Alongside strategic consulting and recruitment services, he began guiding individuals and families in selecting the right health insurance policies based on their real needs.

Today, Manu works with clients not only in India but also across different parts of the world. Through consultations, awareness sessions, and advisory support, he helps people understand how to evaluate insurance products, interpret policy conditions, and avoid common mistakes while purchasing coverage.

One of the key aspects of his work is health insurance education. Manu frequently conducts free awareness sessions where he explains how insurance policies work, what people should look for before buying coverage, and how the claim process functions during medical emergencies.

According to him, health insurance should not be seen merely as a policy document but as an essential financial safety net for families.

“Health insurance is not just about buying a policy. It is about understanding protection before the emergency happens,” Manu often tells the people he advises.

Today, his journey from management trainer to trusted health insurance advisor reflects the power of turning personal setbacks into meaningful missions. What started as a rejected insurance claim has now evolved into a broader effort to improve health insurance awareness in India.

As medical costs continue to rise, Manu believes that the need for proper guidance and education about health insurance will only become more important in the years ahead.

And for him, the mission remains clear — ensuring that families never face financial stress during medical emergencies simply because they did not fully understand their insurance coverage.
