United Sympathetic Hands Of Relief namely ushor the organizing committee of Ushor Shresto Puja 2025 finds itself overflowing with gratitude. This year’s celebration was a living testament to what a community can achieve when compassion, generosity, and a dash of friendly competition come together. To every sponsor, local business, volunteer, and well‑wisher who made this possible: thank you Krunchy Fashions, Dps Newtown, Ginger Board for turning our vision into a reality and for reminding us that the true spirit of Durga Puja lies in giving.
One of the most visible expressions of that spirit was the massive distribution of 8,000 brand‑new garments. From vibrant sarees to cozy garments, each piece was hand‑picked to bring a smile to someone who might otherwise have gone without. The sheer scale of the drive meant that neighbourhoods across the west bengal saw a surge of new clothes on doorsteps, and the gratitude in the eyes of the recipients was priceless.This year the new clothes were distributed in orphanages, shelter homes , specially abled kids, kids of sex workers , old-age homes and in interior villages of purullia district. Behind the numbers were volunteers who spent sleepless nights in locking up of the new dresses from the supporters , sorting, and delivering each item, all because they believed that everyone deserves to dress with dignity during the festivities.
No celebration would be complete without sharing the joy with the little ones who look to us for hope and happiness. This year, 200 orphan and few specially abled children were treated to a special Durga darshan —a day of devotion, fun, and unforgettable memories. The kids were taken for Durga darshan by buses with tiffin and followed by delicious lunch 8n restaurant. Watching their faces light up as the idol was unveiled reminded us why we do this work: to create moments that linger long after the puja ends.
Food, as always, was at the heart of the community. In keeping with tradition, 500 nutritious food packets were distributed during the five days of Durga Puja. Each packet contained a balanced mix enough to nourish a family and add a little extra cheer to their celebrations. The initiative not only eased the burden on many destitute but also fostered a sense of togetherness, as they shared stories and laughter over the meals.
This year we also introduced a friendly social‑initiative competition among the 465 puja committees that participated. Committees were evaluated on metrics such as the number of beneficiaries reached, environmental sustainability of their events, and the creativity of their community outreach programs. The friendly rivalry spurred innovative ideas—from zero‑waste pandals to mobile health camps—and the results were inspiring. While every committee earned praise, the three categories of twelve awards were announced and shall be distributed in their annual award distribution program, but the real prize was the collective impact we achieved together.
