Inspiring Journey of Dr Sameer Vijay Ushkewar: Building a New Standard in Sports Physiotherapy Beyond Pain Relief

Dr Sameer Vijay Ushkewar (PT) is 24 years old, but his thinking is far ahead of his age. While many people still see physiotherapy as something you do only when pain becomes unbearable, Dr Sameer is building a different identity—one that focuses on complete recovery, better movement, and stronger performance. Through his brand, ATP Rehab – Care Beyond Pain Relief, he is shaping a modern approach to sports physiotherapy where the goal is not just to feel okay again, but to return stronger and safer.

His journey started during his undergraduate years when he began to observe one simple truth: pain is not always the main problem, it is often the warning. Many sports injuries come back again and again not because the person is weak, but because the root cause is never fixed. Wrong movement patterns, poor stability, lack of strength, and improper training loads silently create damage over time. This curiosity—of understanding “why” the body breaks down—pulled Dr Sameer toward sports rehabilitation and movement science.

Even as a student, he was known for being serious about learning and practical exposure. His dedication was recognised when he received the Best Student Achievement Award among physiotherapy colleges across Maharashtra. For Dr Sameer, that award was not just a medal, it was motivation. It pushed him to go deeper into assessment skills, injury science, rehabilitation planning, and performance training. He wanted to be the kind of physiotherapist who can guide an athlete from injury to full confidence, not just temporary relief.

As he moved into professional work, Dr Sameer developed a clear style of practice. He does not start with random treatments. He starts with assessment. He looks at biomechanics, strength, stability, movement control, and the way the body compensates after injury. His goal is to find the actual reason behind the pain. Because when the cause is corrected, the body becomes stronger, the injury risk reduces, and recovery becomes more complete. This is also why he believes physiotherapy should be proactive. According to him, if movement issues are identified early, many injuries can be prevented before they become serious.

One thing that makes Dr Sameer’s work different is how much he values evidence and tracking. He likes measurable progress and clear outcomes. He often uses testing and progress monitoring so the athlete can see improvement step by step. He also describes himself as a statistics enthusiast because he believes data helps make rehabilitation smarter, safer, and more effective. In sports, guesswork can lead to repeated injury. His method is built on clarity.

Along with clinical practice, Dr Sameer also built his knowledge through research. His interest in sports biomechanics led to the publication of his book, “Assessment of Lumbo Pelvic Stability in Adolescent Fast Bowlers,” published internationally by Lambert Academic Publishing and available on Amazon. The topic itself shows his focus area—understanding injury risk factors in cricket fast bowlers, where pelvic and lower back stability plays a big role in both performance and injuries. For a young physiotherapist, publishing such work reflects serious commitment to the science behind rehabilitation.

Dr Sameer’s growth was not only academic. He gained valuable field experience by working as an Assistant Physiotherapist for the Kolhapur Tuskers team during the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025. He also worked with the Maharashtra Judo, Gymnastics, and Athletics teams during the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand. These experiences shaped him in a different way. Working with athletes in real competition environments teaches pressure management, fast decision-making, load monitoring, and return-to-play judgment. It also teaches one important thing: athletes don’t just want pain relief—they want performance back. They want confidence back.

With this learning and exposure, Dr Sameer’s vision became clearer. He wanted to create a space where physiotherapy and performance training work together, because recovery cannot be separated from strength, stability, and movement training. This is what led to the creation of ATP Rehab – Advanced Therapeutic Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Built in collaboration with Sammy Fitness Studio, ATP Rehab is designed as a sports performance and rehabilitation lab. It supports athletes and active individuals who want structured recovery, injury prevention, and performance improvement under one roof.

His long-term goal is bigger than just building a clinic. Dr Sameer wants to help create a modern sports physiotherapy ecosystem in India where people don’t wait for injury to happen. He wants to promote a culture of assessment, prevention, and performance-based rehabilitation. His focus is to move people away from symptom-based treatment and toward complete recovery that lasts.

Dr Sameer’s journey is inspiring because it is built on clarity, learning, and a real purpose. At 24, he is not following the easy path of quick treatments and short-term results. He is building a system where care goes beyond pain relief. He is building a new standard where athletes recover better, move stronger, and return to sport with confidence.
